England as the Custodian of the Jewish Past

Wednesday, January 31, 2018 - 04:00pm - 05:30pm

Gary A. Rendsburg, Blanche and Irving Laurie Professor of Jewish History, Rutgers University

England has by far the most Hebrew manuscripts of
any country in the world, from as far away as Egypt,
Yemen, and Persia, in addition to Spain and Italy. And
not just Bible manuscripts, but Maimonides and more.
How did this come to be? Why England? Join us for
the narrative, spanning the Tudor period to the
Victorian age.
