Emergent Nation, 1660-1714

Saturday, October 15, 2016 - 09:00am - 05:00pm

Please join us on Friday, October 14th (3pm-7pm) and Saturday, October 15th (9am-5pm) for our "Emergent Nation, 1660-1714" conference. From 1660-1714, a national vision of empire vastly expanded and was newly named “British” with the 1707 Act of Union. Herein lie the roots of today’s 21st-century British crisis. The conference will consist of plenary presentations from a variety of fields, including English, History, Art History, and Political Science. “Emergent Nation, 1660-1714” promises memorable, exciting discussion, all the more so for its immediacy.

"Emergent Nation, 1660-1714” arose out of a volume of essays edited by Ann Coiro (Rutgers, English), forthcoming from Cambridge University Press, the third of Early Modern British Literature in Transition series.

This event is sponsored by the Rutgers British Studies Center, Rutgers University Libraries, and the Rutgers Department of History. Light refreshments will be served on Friday, and lunch will be served on Saturday. This conference is open to all.
