Alan Lester is Professor of Historical Geography at the University of Sussex. Lester’s most recent book, Deny and Disavow: Distancing Britain’s Imperial Past in the Culture Wars (2022), examines contemporary nostalgia for Britain’s imperial past and British culture warriors’ frequent denial of the Empire’s violent and racist structures. Join us for a discussion about history’s prominent place in today’s culture wars and how scholars might respond.
